Salt Lake Real Estate Underwater Soon?

The rain has been falling most of the night!! Several FACEBOOK friends post have made claims to wet basements. It's nearly the the first of June and I haven't even thought of turning on the sprinkler's at my Draper Home. It's a Wet one for sure! The ground is saturated and the last 3 articles I have read in the Local news has been about water managers concerns over reservoir capacity and current snow pack. Somewhere around 6x our reservoir capacity of water remains in the snowpack above Salt Lake City Homes and property. Snow Pack remains at 300% above normal in some Northern Utah locations! This is not news. We have been hearing about the flood potential all spring as it continues to be above average in moisture and below average in temperature. As a life long Utah Resident this has been the coldest, wettest Spring that I can remember.

Driving around yesterday looking at homes for sale in Sandy, Holladay and Murray, I couldn't help but notice all the pre cautions being taken. City Parks had sand bags stacked and reserves staged. Homes and Estates in Holladay and Murray have placed or stockpiled sand bags around streams and known points of flooding awaiting the predicted event. I noted Homes in Sandy have also taken warnings and are preparing for upcoming activity.

Is this the week? Real Estate in Salt Lake City is predicted to heat up! The storm, which is currently dropping snow in Park City and rain in Salt Lake City should retreat sometime Monday evening. With the daily high set to reach 80 degrees or higher, Home owners along area streams, creeks and even irrigation canals and ditches should pay extra attention to local news and weather conditions. Area streams reach high water marks during evening hours after peak run off from afternoon sun reaches the Salt Lake Valley floor.

Clear debris from any structures or points of restriction. During run off many trees and large limbs can become caught in structures or bridges quickly causing the water to rise and flood.

Residents who live or play near areas streams need to be extremely cautious of children and pets. Even adults have drowned in what normally is just a stream but during times of high water can become a raging river.

As the weather warms this week many areas in Utah will see flooding. it is unavoidable at this point and not a matter of if, it is when and how much. If flooding does occur in your neighborhood, communitty or home feel some comfort in knowing that Salt Lake City Real Estate has been flooded before. Most notably in 1983 when State St in Salt Lake City was turned into a river. We are more prepared. We have spent tax dollars on many projects and upgrades to protect ourselves and our property from potential flooding. We also have many great Flood Clean-up and Restoration Busineses. On a positive note to all the moisture and water concerns is the Lakes and Reservoirs in Utah should soon fill to levels not seen in years. I am personally excited to see the my favorite vacation spot, Lake Powell fill to new levels and can't wait for newly created Bass and crappie habitat to take effect. Anyways, have a safe and Memorable Memorial Day and watch out for the floods.
